Baby Josiah and mom Jackie, my first volunteers for The Birth Experience, had other plans for me. I had just returned from a weekend wedding in Asheville to my Clayton home with three dead batteries, two full memory cards, and a suitcase full of dirty laundry when I got the call. Vanessa, Jackie's sister was calling to announce that Jackie's water had broken and that they were on the way to The Birth and Wellness Center in Chapel Hill. Given the fact that Jackie's last birth was a mere three hours, I knew I had little time to spare.
So I ran around my house, like the usual chicken with her head cut off, trying to gather up, download, recharge, say goodbyes to hubby, my 6 year old Avery and 4month old Burke, and out the door I went. Oh, and the Canes were on too, third period and tied!!!!(I'm a huge FAN!!) Just another twist thrown in there. Thank you Chuck Caiton and 102.9.
An hour later, I arrived to a newly born Josiah David. There was no waiting with this little guy as Jackie and her husband Steven explained that he was born in a half hour of her water breaking!!! I went and documented my impressions of what went on during the 'afterbirth' and here's my slideshow of images. Congratulations Jackie and Steven and your new babe, Josiah.
Hence, I am still seeking volunteer couples for The Birth Experience. I can already tell that this is going to be a fun and exciting ride, full of unpredictability and emotion, and I dig that!!!
